Doc's Corner Article 117

The RiteTimer apparatus will
solve the one major problem that most automatic removal milking
machines have today!
The newly developed
RiteTimer apparatus will solve the one major problem
that most automatic removal milking machines have today. Present
automatic removal machines depend upon milk flow to determine
unit removal time regardless of the vacuum level present in
cluster which is very often complicated by fact that cluster
vent can be partially obstructed thereby preventing proper decay
of vacuum. Presently the cluster vent hole is the only means for
vacuum to escape after milk line vacuum closure. This vent hole
is strictly mechanical and is the only way for present milking
equipment to attain atmospheric pressure prior to unit removal.
Improper removal time becomes prevalent as milking equipment
deteriorates or is improperly maintained. Another way in which
the vacuum fails to decay properly is potential failure of the
milk line closure valve to properly close. As we know milking
unit removal before adequate vacuum decay directly influences
pressure change within cluster which directly influences
mastitis and increased somatic cell levels.
The sensory capabilities of the RiteTimer
will provide the option of either an indicator light
acknowledging the fact that vacuum is still present within the
cluster or an interlock with the retract cylinder preventing
abrupt milking unit removal prior to proper vacuum decay.
This vacuum indicator, the RiteTimer,
will be installed into the milk hose between the milk sensor
valve and milking cluster, preferably as close to the milk
sensor as possible.
Watch for the introduction of the RiteTimer,. The RiteTimer,
should be available by the end of 2007. The RiteTimer,
(patent pending)
is being developed by BF Manufacturing and Sales and will be
marketed by Western Dairy Research,
Inc.
